Review: Pinxin Vegan

Known primarily for their celebrated frozen meal delivery service, Pinxin Vegan's dine-in experience at Georgetown, Penang proves the brand's culinary credentials extend well beyond the freezer aisle. We went there on Friday evening after a long day of exploring for a satisfying plant-based feast rooted in Penang’s rich hawker heritage and we were not disappointed.

The Classic Satay Sticks were delicious. We tried a few of these over the course of our holiday but this one was a standout. Pinxin's signature hericium mushroom did exactly what it promised, delivering real texture and depth without a single gram of mock meat. The satay arrived with all the smoky, peanut-sauce satisfaction of the Malaysian classic, completely reimagined for plant-based diners. The Curry Chee Cheong Fun was equally impressive. Silky rice rolls bathed in a fragrant curry sauce that demonstrated the kitchen's 13-year mastery of slow-cooked Penang flavours. Rich, aromatic and deeply comforting. The Rojak Platter provided a refreshing counterpoint; tangy, crunchy and vibrant, showcasing local produce with characteristic Penang boldness. Two Cucumber Coolers were the perfect companions throughout, clean and refreshing against the richness of the mains, and we did get a second round

At RM85.86 total for two diners including service charge, Pinxin represents exceptional value for cooking of this quality. For climate-conscious diners, every dish here carries the added satisfaction of knowing Penang's beloved hawker traditions are being preserved entirely through plant-based means.
